Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. When she moved to Oxfordshire at the age of five, Emma attended the Dragon School. Emma was inspired to become an actor by the age of six. For several years, she attended the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. She learned to sing, dancing and acting. At the age of 10, she had performed and taken the lead in various Stagecoach productions and school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone The 2001 film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Emma was discovered by agents through her Oxford teacher. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after they all had 8 consecutive auditions. Emma's debut on screen came with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's premiere in 2001. The most successful film of 2001, the film set records for its opening day revenue as well as opening weekend takings. The film was praised by experts, and also by the performances of its three young stars. The highly distributed British newspaper The Daily Telegraph called her performances admirable. Emma was awarded five nominations for her impressive performance. Later, she won the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actresses of a Film.
